The design alludes to the sense of dominance exuded by the companies of Facebook and Coca Cola. In the development of the final piece, I chose to modify the design to make the forms of both buildings similar. I did this in the hope that one company would seem no more powerful than the other, rather, companies of equal status. Although this may not be necessarily true, I felt it out of my own right to determine which would receive the more 'powerful design'. Thus, the buildings gain their individuality in terms of their texture, intricate design details and materiality.

The textures differ in each headquarter to differentiate between the two companies and their widely varying interests and businesses.

The two headquarters with the central lift shaft.

The meeting space exhibits a single table, shaded by an intricate detailing. This feature is shown nowhere else in the design and is thus unique, and moreover, important. This accentuates the notion of power. The 'VIP lounge' sits atop a rocky and visually unstable island. Yet, the table supports itself and is not faulty. As one sites at the table, a horizontal look up at the domineering headquarters further accentuates their expanse across the valley.

The view from the Coca Cola balcony. The red, symbolic of the Coca Cola logo, was included for quick recognition of the company and therefore the location of the headquarters in the bridge. Facebook is similarly represented with a blue balcony. This strongly portrays their sense of dominance and power. The reality that through the use of a single colour, immediate recognition as to which company inhabits which headquarters demonstrates the extent of such power.

WK 3 - Draft models in sketchup

Model 1: Coca Cola Headquarters

The headquarters contains two major componenet with a central public zone on the bottom level. This space would be used for gathering, expressing ideas, displaying campaigns and gaining feedback. The upper levels are designed to be office spaces. There are two sides to the space, one side with two storey's, a second with three storey's with the bridge on top. People thus walk on top of the building space to cross the bridge, both engaging with the architecture and experiencing a sense of the architecture and its power through height. This is represenational of the power of the Coca Cola company.

A staircase from the first floor public zone to the bottom level enables quick access between the two levels on the opposite end of the building to the elevator. This enables circulation within the building, as opposed to the elevator which will primarily be used to transport between the meeting/dining area and the building
The elevator will function from the top floor of the building to the meeting space on the valley floor where users of the space can gain access from any level of the building.

The brige is incorporated into the building, running on top of the additional floor on one side of the building. Users of the space will walk up a series of stairs to the bridge atop the four storey building and again descend to move onto the next headquarters.
This enables an interaction with the architecture as well as taking advantage of the view of the valley rather than consideringa closed bridge.

Model 2: Facebook Inc. Headquarters

A cose up view of the central walkway. This walkway acts as a vital circulation space within the headquarters whilst maintaining its role as part of the broader bridge that spans the valley.

View from the top accentuates the position of the bridge in relation to the building.

The elevator will function as per the chosen concept for the idea of Power and facebook. As explained, I am considering the power of the individual as the driving force of the dominance and success of Facebook as a business. Thus, I have decided to enable the individual to control the architecture. As the elevator is required, the architecture itself will change in response to the individuals needs. The elecator will not only descend as a single block, rather the major central component will be programmed as a moving entity. The architecture's appearance will therefore be constantly changing in response to the requirements of the individual workers themselves.
